Spittin’ sick shit over spilled Sylla-beats, Kogz’ new album has the wax talking loud as one of Australian hip-hop’s newest products takes the art of trash-talk to a new volume.

Brought to you from the camp that has released some of the most explosive hip-hop out of Western Australia, Kogz is only getting warmed up on this balls-out rant and rave for Shake Down Records. His latest album, Trash Talk (Music For Mud Crabs) is a monster release of 23 tracks, featuring over eight guest MCs and four producers, a follow-up from his first album, Piece Of Mind (2014).

Trash Talk (Music For Mud Crabs) comes ahead of four pre-released tracks, included in which his most recent single This Is Hip-Hop, quite apropos for the project. Produced by Rob Shaker, Kogz lets loose from the lip, exclaiming he will “fuck a beat raw til the stem snaps”. This lyrical heat check became a pre-emptive strike of what was to come. Second pre-release, Trash Talk finds a fully-clipped Kogz cocked and loaded, dropping bodies with rants like “I don’t care for pretty metaphors / Why beat around the bush when I can get her fucking pregnant for?” Kogz curbs his own garbage gripes, lyrically slaying all pretenders. Over another fine beatdown from Mat Rafle, Kogz showed that another emcee’s competition has become his trash.

What A Waste and Leaving lend real weight to the album’s narrative, both harnessed around a pair of sinister beat drops courtesy of Mat Rafle. Both very real, very serious tracks which finds Perth’s own telling dark stories of a personal woe. What A Waste tells of weekend warriors losing the battle with drug abuse between the serene vocals of Kathleen McCormack who finds the calm between an exchange of brunt verses from the MC. Similarly, Leaving, also leaves Kogz going inside out of himself, eased up only from a returned visit by McCormack in the hook.

Contributing to the project also, Inveigh Slang (Rants The Chatterbox and Ivewon A.K.A Stanley Blade), SMOG’s Mouf, Complete and Sever, Burn City’s Tornts and SBX’s own Mortar add body counts to the album. Production for Talk (Music For Mud Crabs) was headed up by Rob Shaker with additional beat work from Mat Rafle, C-Lance and Dazastah all recorded, mixed, mastered and cut up by Rob Shaker at Shake Down Studio.
